Advertise your skills on BarefootStudent.com

One of many ways to advertise yourself online.

BarefootStudent.com is a place for college students to advertise themselves for work opportunities. You can offer services for babysitting, music or swim lessons, pet care, moving assistance, and more. All you have to do is post a brief description of yourself along with a photo and the college you attend. You can leave your phone number if you want people to call you otherwise people can message you through the website.

The site shares strong similarities with craigslist (the free advertising of services offered and organizing the site based on your location), but presents itself cleanly and professionally. It is also exclusive to college students and recent graduates, which is a feature unmatched by craigslist or any other website of its kind.

Employers also use BarefootStudent.com to advertise internship and job opportunities, so even if you are not looking for odd jobs, it’s worth taking a look at.

Let me know what you think of the website, and good luck making money!

How to make money from Psychology Research Studies

They get to pick your brain, you get paid!

Psychology majors study the science of behavior and mental processes, and to do this, they need people to study. If you are willing to participate in these studies, you will often be compensated for your time. Here is a quick guide to how to make money by participating in Psychology research studies.

Step 1: Find the Studies
Check various posting boards around your university for fliers advertising paid studies. Make sure to check around in the Psychology building. You can also contact Psychology professors and let them know if they need a subject for a study you are willing to participate if compensated.

Step 2: Participate in the Studies
After finding the studies you are able to be a part of, simply show up when you are told to or answer the survey sent to you. Its often like taking a test with no wrong answers or interviewing for a position you don't care anything about. Keep in mind when participating in studies, the more the study asks of you, the more they will be willing to pay. Interviews pay more than questionnaires, and being hooked up to any machine will usually pay more than a simple interview.

Step 3: Get Paid
You get paid for your time and they get to study your actions and thoughts. It's that simple.

How to make money from Casino Offers

The most fun way to make money is to take advantage of casino offers.

This is one of the most fun ways to make money, but it requires a good deal of self control. Let me explain:

To entice you to sign up for one of their free members cards, casinos often hold special promotions for first time sign ups. Taking advantage of some of the better signup bonuses can actually GUARANTEE you walk away that night with more money than you started with.

For example, Chumash Indian Casino in Santa Ynez, California offers new customers a whopping $50 free in machine play, as long as they live in the local Ventura or Los Angeles counties (they don't advertise this promotion online, but a phone call will confirm that they offer it). While you can't simply cash out the $50 and walk away, you can play with it and cash out whatever you win. I have been to Chumash several times and have had friends earn anywhere from $20 to $110 from their free slot play. You can then take that money and play with it on the table games (which is what the casino wants), or you can pocket it and walk away. The casino obviously would like to become hooked and come back to the casino again and lose some of your own money, but if you want to hold on to your money, I suggest staying home.

As long as you have some self control, taking advantage of casino offers can prove to be an extremely fun way of making some extra money in college.

Make money with an Airport Shuttle Service

Make money with an airport shuttle!
At the end of every semester students from out of state pack up their stuff and head down to the airport to fly home. However, many of these students don't have cars, and the ones who do don't want to leave their car at the airport for months. If you have a car of your own, you can certainly make some money driving students to the airport. Here are the steps you should take if you want to make money from an airport shuttle service.
Step 1:
Calculate how much it will cost you to drive to the airport and back. This will help you set your price.
Step 2:
Advertise! Post flyers, use Facebook, do everything you can to get the word out. You should start to advertise a couple of weeks before the end of the semester.
Step 3:
Make appointments. Try to fill up your car with people every time you make a drive.
Step 4:
Drive people and get paid. It's that easy. This should put some extra cash in your pocket before every Winter and Summer Vacation. Good Luck and drive safe!

Make money from Recycling

Turning cans into cash is a no brainer.
One of the easiest ways to make some extra cash is to recycle your bottle and cans. All you need to do is collect your cans in a trash bag and store it in your garage. When you have enough bags to fill up your car, its time to drive down to your local recycling center and get paid.

Tips
-Click here to find a recycling center near you (California only)
-Sort your recyclables by type of container (aluminum cans, plastic bottles, etc.)

One way you can increase your profits from recycling cans by setting up recycling bins in your and other dorm's common rooms. Also, if you currently live off campus, inviting friends to come over to drink rather than you going out will not only bring you more cans, but save you money on gas too. Now that's green.

Readers, feel encouraged to post questions or comments to any of my posts. I want your feedback!

Apply for Scholarships

It can pay to be a student.
As a college student, you have the unique opportunity of receiving scholarship money; all you have to do is apply for it. I strongly recommend this to you, especially if you are a hard working student and you can write a decent essay.

How to apply for scholarships
The first thing you need to do is make accounts on scholarships.com and fastweb.com. These websites suggest scholarships for you to apply for depending on your unique profile. After that, simply search for scholarships and apply for them. Most scholarships require you to write an essay. This is the only potentially time consuming part of applying, but taking your essays to your university’s writing center can both decrease the time you spend on them and increase the quality of your essays.

Also make sure to keep your eyes open for scholarships that your college offers. Many students do not know about them, or do not bother to apply, and their mistake can turn into your profit.

Do not be discouraged if your first five, ten or even twenty applications are denied. It only takes one $1000 or $2000 scholarship to make it all worth it. Persistence is key!

Sell your Sperm for Cash

Don't waste your sperm, sell it!
Sorry, this one is for guys only. While it may sound desperate, there is some money to be made from selling your sperm.

How Much?
You can expect to earn around $100 a visit, and you can visit 3 times a week. That means $1200 a month!

Where?
There are numerous sperm banks in almost every major city, but because of discretion they can be hard to locate. Search Yellow Pages for a collection bank near you.

Why not?
1.Many men do not feel comfortable with the idea of biological children of theirs running around without them knowing. It can also become complicated if your children ever decide to try to find you.
2.There is an intense screening process. They ask you everything from
your GPA to what your grandfather passed away from, and 95% of applicants get rejected.

3.You cannot "cheat" on your bank. That means no releasing specimen unless it is into one of their plastic cups.

Sell Your Old Stuff!

Selling your old stuff is a simple way to make a few extra dollars and clear some clutter at the same time. Sell anything from video games to your old bike. Websites like Amazon, eBay, and Craigslist make it easy to sell your things online, and if you have enough stuff to sell you could even hold a garage sale. If you don't use it anymore, you might as well make some money from it before its value depreciates anymore.
It's easy to make money from a garage sale.

Paid Leadership Positions

Even Red Bull offers paid leadership positions to students.
Most college students are looking for ways to strengthen their resume, but few are aware that many universities offer paid leadership positions to students. All schools have certain programs that they need to maintain, and many of these are the ones that will pay students to invest their time. Here's a list of departments that often pay students to take up leadership roles.

#1. Resident Adviser (RA) - the highest paying (free room and board) but also comes with the big sacrifice of living with new students.

#2. Inter Club Council- At my school positions like Vice President of Finances and President of Club Affairs for the Inter Club Council pay over $1000 for the year, and look great on a resume!

#3. The Student Newspaper- Whether you take pictures, write articles, design the web site, or sell advertisements, the student newpaper at your school should pay you for your time. Plus it's great practical experience.

#. 4 International Programs- If you went abroad, your school's international program office might hire you
to become an ambassador for your program (my university does this).

#5. Become a Student Ambassador- Many organizations from Red Bull to The National Collegiate Inventors & Innovators Alliance (NCIIA) are looking for students to represent them on college campuses, and will pay you to do it.

Your school could offer many more positions in a variety of different areas, this is just a sample of whats out there. The important thing for you to do is to start looking for these types of opportunities on campus. If you  do find any more, or know of any more, I encourage you to comment on this post and let me know.

Get an On-Campus Job

(Bloom Productions /

Getting an on campus job is a great way to make money as a college student, obviously. Some jobs are definitely better than others, and finding the right one for you can be challenging. Here are the jobs I feel are the best for any student, simply because they take virtually no extra time.

Get a desk job (working in the library, answering phones, etc.) and you will find yourself being paid to do your homework. I had many friends who worked answering phones in a university office and they would get their homework done at work... while getting paid!

Become a paid note taker. Many university offer programs where they pay students to take organized, thorough notes in class. After class you just photocopy the notes, the school gives them to students with disabilities (ADD, dyslexia), and you get a pay check. You are literally getting paid to go to class and pay attention... which is what you should be doing anyways!

To increase your chances of getting hired for these types of jobs at your school, make sure you have work study. If you don't, contact your university's financial aid office and find out how you can get it.

Make the most from Selling your Text books

You can quickly turn a pile of used textbooks into a pile of cash.

One of the sometimes forgotten joys of the semester ending is getting some money back by selling textbooks. However, many people don't go about this the right way. Here are some simple do's and don'ts to maximize your return from selling your textbooks.

Never sell to the campus bookstore!
The bookstore is a business looking to turn a profit from the books you sell them, they will low ball you. While it is convenient to sell to the campus bookstore, avoid it and sell directly to other students. By cutting out the middle man, you can get more of your money back on your books.

Sell offline when you can
Find out who you know is going to need your text books and try to sell directly to them. You avoid paying commissions or listing fees to any website, and the buyer avoids paying shipping.

Sell early
Timing is everything. The longer you wait after school ends to list your books online, the more other people have already listed theirs. The higher the supply of books listed means the lower your price will have to be. Listing early can also mean that summer school students will have the opportunity to buy your books. This gives you a whole group of potential buyers that you would miss if you listed your books too late. Also, you can always re-list your books for lower prices later in the summer if they don't sell immediately and other sellers make prices go down.

Sell your friends' books
Whether they are too lazy, or just don't know how, many students choose not to sell their books online and instead sell them to the school book store, and this is an opportunity for you to make some extra cash. Find out what books they have to sell, do some quick research on how much they go for online, and offer to buy each book at a price that you feel confident you will be able to make a profit. Then, when they are selling their books to the bookstore, they will hold on to any that you made a better offer on, and sell them to you instead. While this method requires some capital and taking a few risks, it requires very little of your time.

Hopefully this helps you earn a greater return on your textbooks. If you don't know how and would like to learn how to sell your textbooks online, comment on this post and I will personally walk you through it.

Who am I?

Hello Readers,

Like many of you, I am a college student who has struggled to keep my bank account from reaching a $0 balance. I decided to start analyzing different ways to make money while in college about a year ago, and since then I have been able to build my bank account, and actually enjoy school without the worry of my finances. This blog is the result of my research and personal experiences, and my goal is to pass on the knowledge that I have come upon.

Best of luck,

Kevin
